Intro
A Life Science reagent manufacturer (End-User) in the Twin Cities, MN area determined the need to create a new production facility to produce ancillary material protein products under GMP conditions. Various system components required the development and implementation of a Process Control System (PCS).
Challenge
The End-User repurposed an existing industrial manufacturing space for use in this new cGMP facility and engaged the services of a General Contractor to procure major system components and provide installation services; however, the General Contractor required System Integrator services to develop and implement the PCS.
Solution
Excel Engineering subcontracted to the GC for the supply and integration of the PCS for this new facility. Services included
- Functional Specification development
- PLC and HMI programming
- FAT and IQ/OQ protocol generation and execution
- Control panel design and procurement
- Major systems included Large Volume Formulation, CIP coordination and PCS integration (PlantPAx)
Results
Successful automation of a previously bench scale process in a full-scale manufacturing environment.
